The members of the Endangered Properties Committee must accept your proposal before you can sign a contract to purchase. Provide as many details as you can at this time so that all committee members can understand your interest with the preservation and rehabilitation of this house.
When you close on your property, protective covenants will be attached to the deed and will be in effect in perpetuity. At closing you will also sign a rehabilitation agreement if such a document is warranted.

To make an offer to purchase a historic structure from Preservation Durham, please address each of the following questions in the form of a brief proposal:

  1. How do you plan to use the structure? Do you plan to live in it, rehabilitate it for resale or rent it?
  2. What is the time frame for making the house livable and when do you plan to have the rehabilitation complete?
  3. What alterations to the existing structure are you considering? We are not looking for a lengthy document, but you may include any building details or drawings to help the members of the committee better understand your plan. The rehabilitation agreement will ultimately address specific details of the plan.
  4. List any previous building rehabilitation experience you have.
  5. What is your proposed purchase price?
  6. Please provide documentation that indicates the financial resources you have to complete the rehabilitation; for example, proof of credit, a qualifying letter from a lender or documentation of available funds. Make sure your lender understands that this property will be subject to protective covenants.
