This year, in partnership with NC Modernist, Preservation Durham is delighted to bring you a fall home tour, the Harkrader Home Tour. From 1972-2000, Richard and Lonna Harkrader founded, owned, and operated New Morning Construction and New Morning Realty, two businesses that built numerous passive solar, energy-efficient homes and apartments with a unique architectural style in and around the Morehead Hill neighborhood of Durham.

 

Join Preservation Durham and NC Modernist in celebrating the beautiful homes designed by the Harkrader on Saturday, October 10th. Visit six homes with beautiful landscapes, wood-built design elements, and intentional and thoughtful energy-efficient considerations.

Interested in volunteering as a docent? Click here to sign up! Docents are stationed around the homes to ensure tour attendees and the home remain safe throughout the tour. No previous experience is required to be a docent. All docents receive a free ticket to enjoy the tour while not working their shift.
